LAMP (Leading and Motivating Physicians)

Seeking an outcome, I didn’t care much about the journey;

Hours spent talking, chanting, researching and reading

It was the medic in me’s comfort zone

Zooming in, with time differences across the equator

Knowledge was gained, confidence was built

The slow grind repulsed me from comfort

Peak experiences, pearls of wisdom- I strengthened my resolve

To build a lamp whose medic light would glow

A lamp to light up

A lamp to build

A beacon of resilience

A guide for leadership

Directing and collates legacies

A chromosome of resilience, a cytokine of persistence

Hard wired in our being is the quest to save lives

But ….

After years of toil my spirit grows weary

I start to stray as my mind goes yonder

I begin to grow grey as I continue to ponder

What else exists out there, is this all there is?

Until….

I am introduced to phoenix and the masters of resilience

I hold on to them until I am revived

Armed with resilience I expand my tents – and begin to wonder – why was I living in a shadow?

The shadows that I face grow shorter

As I broaden my horizon, and as the lamp light my paths

I carry a scepter – a mantle crowned with hope for many

I pursue a future befitting of my honor

To serve my fellow countrymen amidst the healthcare turmoil

Creating a future that doesn’t exist

It’s not a magic wand, I tell my followers,

It’s a transformation that can only come from within

It’s obvious you can’t contain it, as it always demands that you share it

The scepter of leadership, my profession yearns for

My neck on the line, leading with courage

The scepter a reminder of the light ahead

For the lamp continues to light, bright and doesn’t seem to fade

Within me lies a yearning

Memento mori the phrase to remember

I have learnt, experienced and so journeyed …

Like the Acropolis influenced civilizations

Am eager to build and write from the future

For generations behind me I promise

A promise to medics toiling as attendees

Some still in high school question to go to the grind

I leave a promise with my name ingrained

To them I will pass it, to generations I will influence

So my lamp can continue to shine ……
